Improving lives through boxing

WBC Cares UK

About us

  • To create a world where everyone has access to high-quality and safe boxing training, regardless of their ability, age, gender, identity, income or disability.

  • WBC Cares UK, created by the World Boxing Council, celebrates past, present and future champions and supports the worldwide boxing community.

We are a not-for-profit organisation working within communities across the UK. Dedicated to making boxing accessible to all and creating social change. We believe everyone has the right to participate in boxing. Through our work, we encourage others to overcome barriers and work creatively to ensure no one is left behind.

  • We are not making World Champions, we are making Champions of the World!

Reaching across the world to unite people, WBC Cares, with volunteer members in 166 Countries, is passionate about using our global platform to bring the principles of our sport to others: diversity, sportsmanship and dedication.

At the WBC convention in 2006, the WBC celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of Dr Jose Sulaiman, as President of the organization. It had always been Jose’s mission to find different ways for our community, to share the richness of our humanity with others. Thus Jose Sulaiman proudly launched WBC World Boxing Cares. The program acknowledges all those little champions around the world that serve as an example of courage and heroism.

This initiative was to be a world campaign in which boxing personalities, especially world champions, carry out charitable services such as visiting children’s hospitals, orphanages and youth centres so as to encourage them to keep up their fight. These sporting celebrities have shown by example, that there is always the possibility to succeed, no matter what the battle or the odds.

“It is a huge honour for me to have been asked to develop WBC Cares UK. Having previously had a successful boxing career, nothing brings me greater pleasure than being able to use this fantastic sport to support our communities…

I believe that everybody has the right to access the many physical and psychological benefits that boxing has to offer. Stepping into the role of Chairman has provided me with the chance to make this belief a reality. As Chairman of WBC Cares UK I endeavour to keep providing more boxing opportunities to our communities – by working together we can make boxing a sport of greater diversity and inclusivity”

  • "The changes are visible week on week where young people become more motivated and are always really looking forward to the sessions; sometimes turning up an hour early to wait to come into the session!"
